Prologue
As an artist, Pallavi likes to retrace her physical path by deconstructing her mental and emotional perceptions of the places she has lived in.
Having lived in fast paced, noisy chaotic cities and quiet peaceful islands, the artist realizes that the physical location is important, but the bigger role is played by her own individual perception of things surrounding her. Her quest is to examine her relation with her surroundings, whether she is in the midst of chaos or tranquillity. Through art, she wants to challenge and confront seemingly opposing energies by observing them objectively.
Pallavi’s series of work, ‘Lombok’, was inspired by her move to a remote island in Indonesia. The shift allowed her to create artworks in an environment which was conducive to peace and quiet. She loves being surrounded by nature and her move to this paradise of an island seemed ideal. The artworks that followed reflected her love for nature, the land and the ocean and all the energies that made the island truly magical.
The series ‘Crossroads’, inquire into Pallavi’s relation with city life. She found life in the city of Mumbai inspiring and chaotic. The incessant noise threatened her peace of mind and she found this contradiction interesting. She was fed by this burst of information and yet found the stress of the city unsettling. What transpired was the creation of thought provoking paintings questioning her own beliefs every time she found herself at the crossroads.
